Biogas Systems Overview

Biogas plants have the ability to accept a wide variety of organic residue as primary fuel input. This includes cow dung, slaughter, kitchen, food and other organic residues. Most agricultural/food production processes have significant amounts of organic residue output as a by-product. Traditionally these residues are buried in landfills, which cause negative environmental impacts. In some places, this residue disposal will generate significant costs. A biogas plant solves this residue disposal problem by converting residue into usable and saleable energy. This will open a reliable and constant revenue stream for the biogas power plant owner. The by-product is a nutrient-rich fertilizer which can be used or sold to farmers.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Biogas is created by bacteria in the process of bio-degradation of organic material under anaerobic (without air) conditions. Methanogens (methane producing bacteria) help to degrade organic material and return the decomposed products to the environment. In this process, biogas (methane) is generated, which is a source of renewable energy. This biogas is then passed through a gas-purification system in which excess moisture and hydrogen sulfide is removed. In most cases the treated gas is then used to power a gas engine which will generate electricity and heat. The electricity can be sold into the national grid or used directly to power the electrical loads of the project owner. The heat of the gas engine can be used for certain pre-heating applications.
In certain cases, it might be economically feasible to use the biogas to fire existing boilers and our systems can be adapted accordingly. Each Annex Power biogas system will be designed to fit the individual needs of our customers.

Our standard system solution comprises a combined heat and power (CHP) gas engine, a biological or chemical based desulphurization unit, fermentation tanks, pumps, fuel handling units and a unique computerized control/monitoring system.
