Annex Solar offers pre-designed home solar power kits which can be connected to the public electricity grid. The solar energy produced can be used inside your house if needed and excess solar electricity is fed back into the grid.
In optimal conditions, the credit you earn by feeding power back to the grid will offset the cost of the energy you use when the sun does not shine. This arrangement with your utility company is called "net metering."
Solar power systems for home use generally will not operate when the grid is down. That disadvantage is offset when you consider that these systems are much more efficient and less expensive than those that include backup batteries. Unless you live in an area subject to frequent outages, it will generally be more cost efficient for you to install a grid-connected system.
